Summer Melodious Notes Over the Harbor
Adults: $21 & Students $11
After a very successful concert in April, Melodious Notes is trying something new by being in the Gubelman for an evening and afternoon performance. This will give the audience an intimate setting so that they will be able to be up close and personal with the musicians. The performances are designed to be lighter and have more of a summer flavor. This also allows the musicians to use different combinations of instruments for small ensembles. And since it will be the end of summer, Melodious Notes will be able to more easily utilize off island and on island musicians in more interesting and unique combinations.
Director Sue Collado says, "Many people don't realize that we don't all live in Friday Harbor, and we have become frequent fliers on the ferry to make these performances possible. These summer Melodious Notes concerts have typically been a part of Night Music, and so this is our first summer adventure on our own, and we are excited to be able to share these wonderful pieces with you. Please join us!"
Some of the titles of the more fanciful pieces that will be performed are Chopsticks Variations, Hypnosis, Souffle Sonata (Batter Matter Patter), Fairy Tales (also known as Märchenerzählungen), and Nocturn.
Represented will be solos by flute, cello, and piano, and small ensembles with viola and clarinet; flute, bassoon, and piano; clarinet, viola, and piano; and violin, cello, and piano.
Composers include Randall Compton, Rebecca Clark, Ian Clarke, Gary Shocker, Chopin, Nicolai Kapustin, Robert Schumann, and Piazzolla.
